Additive Manufacturing

AM Center of Excellence

I built an Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence within a manufacturing site for producing tooling, fixtures, and protoypes. This added to our CNC tool room capabilities and is equipped with a Formlabs Fuse 1, Stratasys F170, and Bambulab X1E for polymers, and the Desktop Metal Studio System 2 for metals. It also has a Creaform Handyscan Black Elite for 3D scanning. This facility has enabled tens of thousands of dollars in cost savings.

Robot Grippers

This is a sample from the Additive Manufacturing CoE. These are robot grippers printed in D2 tool steel and designed with topology optimized for the load case using Ansys Discovery.

This set had material added on key surfaces to be machined to size later.

Concrete Casting

This is a concrete casting made from a 3D printed TPU mold. This example is a mountain I visited many times near where I grew up. I like that the layer lines of the 3D print show up so well in the casting - they look like the contours of a topographic map.
